# 6.2 Split view

> Dividing the screen into panels and keeping several contexts at once

Split view\
divides the workspace into **several panels**.

It’s not only for comparing two files;\
you can **expand to as many panels as you need**.

***

## What does split view allow?

* Open several documents at once
* Work with document + plot + sheet
* See structure, setting, and text on one screen

You keep several contexts\
**without closing files**.

***

## Split direction

You can split in these directions:

### Split right

Opens a new panel to the **right** of the current one.

* Main document + reference
* Document + sheet
* Document + plot

Good for **side‑by‑side** comparison.

***

### Split bottom

Opens a new panel **below** the current one.

* Top: structure, bottom: writing
* Top: setting, bottom: editing

Good for **vertical** flow.

***

## Adding more panels

Split view\
is not one-time.

You can split again from inside a panel\
and keep expanding.

So on one screen\
you can have **several files open at once**.

***

## Main idea

The point of split view\
is not "compare two things."

> Split view is\
> **a way of working**\
> where you keep several contexts at once.

You write in a document while looking at the plot,\
check setting while reviewing another chapter —\
without breaking the flow.

***

## Summary

Multi-view\
is **several documents in one flow**.

Split view\
is **several files open at once**.

In Pensiv, split view\
is not "divide the screen";\
it’s **a way to extend context**.
