# 5.4 Task status and visual cues

> Checkbox, color bar, schedule and due date, move, open task, view switch

Tasks are not just a text list.

In Pensiv,\
status and priority are shown with **visual cues**.

Those cues help you\
see quickly what to do next.

***

## 1. Checkbox — done or not

Each task has a checkbox on the left.

* Unchecked → in progress
* Checked → done

Done tasks\
drop out of the active list.\
The checkbox is\
the basic status.

***

## 2. Color bar — group and highlight

A color bar appears on the left of the task.\
You can change it from the more (…) menu.

Color can be used for:

* Phase (e.g. draft, edit)
* Importance
* Type of work

Color is not a feature;\
it’s a **way to group and emphasize**.

***

## 3. Schedule and due date — time

You can set two dates on a task:

* **Schedule** → when you plan to do it
* **Due date** → when it must be done

Use the icon on the right of the task\
to open the calendar and set dates.

Tasks with dates\
are ordered in the time-based views.

***

## 4. Move — change linked file

Use the move icon on the right\
to **link the task to a different file**.

So a task that started in the inbox\
can be attached to a document or plot.

**Move** resets the task’s context.

***

## 5. Open task — detail view

Choose "Open task"\
to go to the task detail screen.

There you can:

* Edit the description
* Change schedule
* Change due date
* Mark complete

all in one place.

The list is for quick management;\
opening the task is for **detail**.

***

## 6. View switch — filter by time

The four views at the top\
re-sort tasks by time:

* **Inbox** → no date
* **Today** → today’s schedule or due
* **Scheduled** → tasks with a date
* **All tasks** → everything

Switching views\
is the main way to **read** current task state.

***

## Summary

The task screen\
is not just a to-do list.

* Checkbox = execution state
* Color = group and emphasis
* Date = time flow
* Move = context
* View = scope

A task is not only text;\
it’s an **interface for reading status**.
