# 10.3.2 Apply platform standards with typesetting presets

> What typesetting presets are, where to set them, how they apply, when to use

Typesetting presets **apply layout and paragraph rules** to match a given platform (publisher, contest, e-book, etc.).

When different places ask for different formats, a preset applies the right one without manual tweaking.

***

## What are typesetting presets?

A typesetting preset is a **single setting** that controls layout and paragraph rules.

Examples:

* Paragraph spacing
* Line spacing
* First-line indent
* Chapter title style
* How spaces are handled

The **text** doesn’t change; **how it’s laid out** does.

***

## Where do I set it?

1. Open the document.
2. Click **Settings** in the header or in the navigation.
3. In editor settings, under **Typesetting (platform preset)**, choose a preset.

Presets are predefined per platform. The choice applies to the whole document right away.

***

## What happens when I apply one?

When you pick a typesetting preset:

* Paragraph structure is adjusted to the preset
* Heading styles are unified
* Line spacing and margins follow the preset
* Manual layout tweaks that conflict can be normalized

Existing text stays; only **layout** changes.

***

## When to use it

### Before contest submission

* When the required format is clearly defined
* In the final pass before submitting

### Before e-book export

* When you need one consistent format before EPUB
* When cleaning up chapter/section structure

### Before publishing or posting

* Apply web or serial format
* Match a specific publisher’s or platform’s rules

***

## What typesetting presets are for

Typesetting presets belong in the **cleanup** phase, not while drafting.

Write freely first; apply a preset in the **final step** before submission.

***

## What to watch

* Typesetting presets standardize layout, not content.
* Text is unchanged; some spacing may be adjusted for the platform.
* After applying, skim the document once to confirm flow.

***

## Summary

* Typesetting presets apply platform-style layout in one step.
* Set them in Settings → Editor → Typesetting preset.
* The whole document’s layout updates to the preset.
* Use them after writing, when preparing to submit.

Typesetting presets are the **last step** to make the manuscript “submission-ready.”
