In Pensiv, once you understand the screen, the structure makes sense.
These terms are Pensiv’s basic language.

🧱 Sidebar

The vertical strip on the far left.
It holds main navigation and sections —
the full project structure.
What the sidebar does:
  • Shows the project’s hierarchy
  • Add and reorder sections
  • Create files
  • Drag to rearrange structure
The sidebar is not just a list;
it’s a map of where you are in the work.

🧭 Main navigation

The fixed top level of the sidebar. It includes:
  • Project home
  • Graph
  • Tasks
  • Notes
  • Bookmarks
  • Projects
What it does:
  • Switch thinking mode
  • Move through the project
  • Reach top-level areas
Switching from document to Graph to Tasks
happens here.

🗂 Section

Units under Projects that are role-based, not just folders. Examples:
  • Character
  • Plot
  • Document
  • Research
Sections are not the same as folders:
  • Folder → storage
  • Section → role
From a section’s menu you can add
documents, sheets, plotboards, canvas, folders.
Sections define
how you treat the work,
not only where it lives.

🏷 Tab bar

The row of open files at the top.
You keep several files open
and switch without losing context.
Tabs are not just a file list;
they’re the set of things you’re actively thinking about.

📌 File header

The band under the tab bar with file information. It includes:
  • File path
  • Status
  • Tags
  • Connection info
  • Settings
  • File options
Metadata and controls for the current file.
Context for what you’re looking at.

✏ Toolbar

The editing tools under the file header.
For a document, examples:
  • Font
  • Alignment
  • Formatting
  • Search
  • View options
  • Word count
The toolbar is for shaping content.
Not for changing structure.

🧩 Panel

The main workspace where work happens.
Documents, plotboards, sheets, and canvas
open inside a panel.
A panel is not just a window;
it’s the space you’re focused in.

🪟 Split view

Splitting the layout so you can see several files at once. You can:
  • Split left/right
  • Split top/bottom
  • Use multiple tabs
Split view is not about opening more files;
it’s about not losing context.

One-line summary

  • Sidebar = structure
  • Tabs = open thoughts
  • File header = context
  • Toolbar = editing
  • Panel = focus
  • Split = extend
Pensiv is not a tool for storing files;
it’s a workspace for keeping context and extending your thinking.
