and what context it belongs to. If the editor toolbar is for writing,
the header is for everything you do with the document as an object. The document header is not about drafting;
it’s a control area focused on management, relationships, and context.
① Document notes
The document header includes a document notes view.That space is for notes about the document, and you can use it in two ways.
1. Document-only notes
- Notes that belong only to this document
- Visible only when this document is open
- Good for ideas, edit direction, revision notes, TODOs
- “Lower the emotional tone in this scene”
- “Needs to connect with Ch. 2”
- “Shorten sentences when editing”
2. Link a navigation note
In the document notes view you canchoose an existing note file from the main navigation and show it here. Navigation notes:
- Standalone note space used across the project
- Can be linked to any file type
- One note can be shared across many documents, characters, plotboards
either write new notes or
pull in an existing note to view alongside the document.
Document notes are not isolated; they’re a gateway into the project’s note structure.
Document notes are
both a memo space attached to the document and
a window into the project’s note structure.

⑤ Document management controls (overview)
The⋯ menu in the document header holdscontrols for managing the document.

- Safety (document history)
- Actions for sharing, organizing, closing
Each feature is covered in more detail in later sections.
Summary
The document header is not a side feature.It’s the main control that turns the document into a manageable work unit. Once you understand the header,
the document is no longer just text;
it becomes an object that lives inside the project.
