pensiv runs almost the same when you open it in a browser. What only the installed app does is reach directly into this device’s files, windows, and fonts.

Settings gains three more tabs

System and Fonts in the System group, and Sync Settings in the Project group, appear in the desktop app only. In a browser they drop out of the list entirely.
  • System — startup behavior, Close to tray, Obfuscate screen, and Reset cache.
  • Fonts — Import Font brings font files from your computer into the app. It takes ttf · otf · woff · woff2.
  • Sync Settings — the last sync time, pending changes, and project backup.
UI Zoom and Translucent window in the Appearance tab of the General group also show in the app only.

The manuscript stays on this device as a file

The app saves the project separately as a .pnsv file. A browser has no such file. Press Ctrl/Cmd + S and it writes on the spot. Double-click a downloaded .pnsv-theme · .pnsv-template · .pnsv-plugin file and the app comes up and moves on to the install step.

Opening several windows

Choose Open in New Window from the menu on a tab or a sidebar item and one more window opens holding that screen alone. You can spread the manuscript across one monitor and a character sheet across the other.

The app stays after you close the window

The pensiv icon stays in the Windows tray and in the Mac menu bar. Choose Show and the window comes back up; choose Quit and it ends completely then. What happens when you close the window is set in System under settings.

The app fetches updates itself

Once a new version finishes downloading, a dialog asks whether to restart and install now. Press Restart & Install and it applies right away. If you are holding on to a manuscript, you can put it off with Later.

If the window keeps dying

When the window dies suddenly, the app reloads it on its own. If it still keeps happening, a dialog appears asking you to restart the app.
