Now that you have seen what kind of tool pensiv is, it is time to make a place to put your manuscript. Once the app is installed and you are signed in, you make your first project in the next chapter.

Downloading the app

Get the installers for Mac and Windows at pensiv.so/download. If you are using pensiv in a browser, the “Download Desktop App” card in the sidebar goes to the same page.

Signing in

The first time you open the app there are three buttons under the logo: “Continue with Google”, “Continue with Apple”, and “Continue with Email”. Whichever one you press, your default browser opens and takes you to the sign-in screen on the pensiv homepage. When you finish authenticating in the browser, you come back to the app and the sign-in carries on. Do not close the app while that happens.

If you signed up with email, you verify once

If you signed up with email, the “Verify your email” screen comes first. A verification link has gone to the address you signed up with, so press the link in your mailbox, then come back to the app and press “I’ve verified”. If it has not gone through yet, a notice tells you the address is not verified, so wait a moment and press it again. If the mail does not arrive, use “Resend email”. Once you have sent one, you have to wait 60 seconds, and the time remaining is shown. If you signed in with Google or Apple, this screen does not appear.

After signing in

Once sign-in is done, you go into home. A new account with no workspace goes through the onboarding screens first. The steps after that carry on in the next chapter.

When an update is ready

Once a new version has finished downloading, the app asks whether to restart and install now. Press “Restart & Install” and it applies right away. If you are in the middle of a manuscript, you can put it off with “Later”. If a network problem keeps the app from checking for updates, it starts in offline mode.
